Paphangkorn Tavatanakit ("you can call me Patty," she said) had bogey-free nines of 30-30 and finished her round with five straight birdies on a course playing 5,796 yards for the girls 13-14 division. Through 36 holes of the 54-hole event, Tavatanakit is at 19-under par 125 and takes a nine-stroke lead into the final round.

"It is the best round I ever played," Tavatanakit, who in 2012 won the Junior World girls 11-12 division, said. "Everything seems so right today."

Tavatanakit, who is from Bangkok and has been playing for six years, said she hit every green in regulation and needed only 24 putts, none longer than 20 feet. She said putting is the strongest part of her game and that she hits her driver 260 yards.

Her goal, she said, is to play NCAA Division 1 golf before pursuing professional golf. She is 877th in the women's World Amateur Golf Ranking, though she has only played junior events.
