Scott Hend wins in Thailand, celebrates by inhaling champagne

March 13, 2016

Spraying winners on the 18th green with champagne is a common practice on the LPGA Tour. In the men's game, you don't see it as often, but Scott Hend certainly seems in favor of it. After winning the Thailand Classic, Hend embraced a champagne shower, opening his mouth and inhaling as much as he could. Check it out (48-second mark):

And why not? After a close call in Thailand last year, the Aussie looked like he might walk away a disappointed runner-up again. Hometown favorite Piya Swangarunporn, No. 798 in the Official World Golf Ranking, shot a stunning course-record 63 to move into the lead before Hend passed him with a birdie on the penultimate hole to win his second career European Tour event. Plus, it's pretty hot in Thailand.

There's also reason to celebrate for all Australians. Hend's win was the fifth victory by an Australian golfer on the European Tour this season -- a new record. And that doesn't count Adam Scott's recent back-to-back wins on the PGA Tour.
