PGA Tour: Watson takes one-stroke lead

February 20, 2016

Bubba Watson moved into position to win the Northern Trust Open for the second time in three years with a four-under par 67 in the third round at Riviera Country Club on Saturday to take a one-stroke lead.

Watson hit 10 fairways, eight more than he hit on Friday, yet he attributed his score to putting.

“It always comes down to making the putts out here,” he said. “The key for me is always putting.”

Second-round leader Jason Kokrak, seeking his first PGA Tour victory, kept himself in a position to win with a one-under par 70 and is one stroke back and tied with Dustin Johnson and Chez Reavie.

Rory McIlroy, No. 3 in the World Ranking, played his way into contention with a round of four-under par 67. He stands two shots behind Watson, as does Adam Scott.
