New swing analyzer uses four separate sensors to track your swing

If information is the key to understanding anything, then it only seems logical that more information can lead to better understanding. That’s one way to look at the influx of motion-capture analysis tools for the golf swing, and one company looking to expand average golfers’ potential for analyzing their own swings is Coach Labs with its new DuoTrac sensors.

Unlike many other consumer swing analysis tools, DuoTrac incorporates not just one swing analysis sensor, but four. Two sensors are attached to the club, one in the butt of the grip and the other at the ferrule near the clubhead. Two other sensors clip to the belt at either hip. The sensors weigh approximately four grams each.

The idea is to better capture what’s going on at more points in the swing, or more precisely what’s going wrong. DuoTrac reports data on clubface path, transition, face angle at impact and weight shift. In fact, it measures face angle throughout the swing. Linked to your smartphone, the app assesses address position, backswing, downswing and impact with distinct thumbs-up/thumbs-down icons. The app also provides instant tips to attack trouble areas.

“If you only track your swing without any consideration of weight shift, you are only getting half the picture,” said Jason Koo, founder of Coach Labs, Inc. and creator of DuoTrac. “Our 4D device eliminates the guesswork and Band-Aid fixes and ensures that perfect practice makes perfect.”

DuoTrac, which currently only works with iOS systems but will offer an Android app in the coming months, is available for pre-order for $99 and will begin shipping next month.
