New No. 1 in women's D-I poll

For the first time since the preseason poll was released in late August, USC has claimed the No. 1 spot in the Golf World/NGCA women's coaches' poll. The Trojans victory at the Allstate Sugar Bowl, where they outpaced previous No. 1 Alabama, as well as their runner-up finish at the Battle at Rancho Bernardo Inn helped propel the squad to the top.

Here is the poll overall:

This is the fourth time since Golf World resumed the polls in 2000-01 that USC has held the No. 1 spot. It's the 31st time (out of 82 polls released) that the Trojans have been in the top five.

A few other notes:

At the Division II level, Nova Southeastern was the unanimous pick for No. 1.

The defending NCAA champs have finished no worse than third in six tournaments this season with senior Sandra Chankija eyeing her fourth straight NGCA national player of the year award.

Similarly, Methodist maintained its place atop the D-III ranking, earning 15 of the 20 available first-place votes. The Monarchs have won five times in their first six starts in 2010-11 and rank either first or second in par-3, par-4 and par-5 scoring this season.
