Pat Perez’ comeback from a long injury hiatus hit a high note on Saturday when he shot a nine-under par 62 in the third round of the OHL Classic at Mayakoba to pull within a shot of Gary Woodland’s lead.

Woodland posted a five-under par 66 at El Camaleon Golf Club in Playa del Carmen, Mexico, and concluded 54 holes in 18-under par 295.

Perez, who is in only his third start since a shoulder injury shelved him in late February, went out in seven-under par 29 and had eight birdies, an eagle and a lone bogey on the round.

“I’ve I’ve just been on this different attitude the last couple of weeks, where I just try to stay aggressive and try to think of the right shot and a good shot and not worry about what happens,” Perez said. “It’s really worked. I’ve been working on it the last nine months, since I got hurt, Just trying to work on a new aggressive attitude.”

Scott Piercy is in third, two strokes behind, while PGA Tour rookie Seamus Power, who represented Ireland in the Olympic Games, is in fourth, three strokes back following a round of seven-under 64.
