How golf is helping Johnny Manziel get back on track

May 05, 2015

A year ago, Johnny Manziel ruled the sports world. He was the talk of the NFL draft and the supposed savior of a downtrodden Cleveland Browns franchise. Jason Dufner lost his mind when his favorite team selected the Heisman Trophy winner from Texas A&M.

But Johnny Football's rookie season in the NFL was a bust and his first off-season didn't get any better. Manziel checked himself into a drug and alcohol treatment center in February and stayed there for more than two months.

But a source told ESPN, "golf has been a constructive outlet," since Manziel's stint in rehab.

That source also said Manziel, 22, is moving out of his bachelor pad in downtown Cleveland and into a golf community in the suburbs. Manziel, an avid golfer, appeared on the December 2014 cover of Golf Digest. The QB trading time partying for time working on his golf game seems like a win-win for everyone involved.
