Fantasy Golf: Will Bryson DeChambeau keep rolling at the Valero Texas Open?

April 20, 2016

In anticipation of Bryson DeChambeau's pro debut last week, we told you we were #Delievers, and boy, did Bryson DeChambeau delive. On top of earning his first big paycheck, his T-4 at the RBC Heritage means he'll get to tee it up again at this week's Valero Texas Open without having to burn one of his remaining six sponsor's exemptions. DeChambeau is the real deal as evidenced by him leading the field in strokes gained/tee to green at Harbour Town, not to mention his T-21 the week before at the Masters. And we see no reason not to roll with the red-hot golfer who essentially has a free roll in Texas this week. Here's who else I'm taking on my PGA Tour Fantasy Golf team at TPC San Antonio:

Bryson DeChambeau: Yes, DeChambeau could have a care-free attitude this week since he's getting an extra opportunity to play, but when you're trying to earn your PGA Tour card and avoid a potential full year on the Web.com Tour, you can't afford a letdown. And being a physics major, Bryson has probably already figured out a formula for how to deal with all of this and with how to convert his current momentum into an even greater payday.

Brendan Steele: Steele has struggled of late (I know, because he's on my year-long fantasy team. . . ), but he returns to the site of his lone PGA Tour title in 2011. Steele has added a T-4 and a T-8 at TPC San Antonio since, meaning I wouldn't be surprised -- and certainly wouldn't mind -- if he slips on the victory cowboy boots on Sunday for a second time.

J.B. Holmes: TPC San Antonio is long and difficult and it should play even more into the hands of bombers like Holmes with rain in the forecast this week. Holmes has a pair of top-15 finishes in four tries at this track. More importantly, he has five top 11s in his past six stroke-play starts, including a T-4 at the Masters.

Jason Kokrak: Another big hitter, Kokrak spent some serious dough on the final hole at Harbour Town last week, but he's still quietly having a very solid season. A runner-up at Riviera earlier in the year, his T-6 at the RBC moved him up to 29th in the current FedEx Cup standings. And also like Holmes, Kokrak has two recent top 15s at TPC San Antonio.
