Champions Tour cancels China tournament following deadly explosions

August 26, 2015

The Champions Tour has canceled the Pacific Links China Championship in Tianjin, China, following a massive explosion in the city's port.

“On behalf of the Champions Tour and our players, we are confident this is the appropriate and correct decision," said Champions Tour President Greg McLaughlin. "Our thoughts are with the victims and their families and those injured after this tragedy. We look forward to our continued partnership with Pacific Links and the 2016 Champions Tour event at the 27 Club in China.”

The event was originally scheduled for September 18-20 at the 27 Club in Tianjin. The course grabs its name from a joint designing effort of 27 major winners -- including Tom Watson, Nick Faldo, Lee Trevino, John Daly and David Duval.

On August 12, an explosion rocked the port of Tianjin. More than 135 deaths have been confirmed, with 40 missing and over 800 injuries.
