Amy Mickelson reappears at Torrey Pines

September 16, 2009

Phil Mickelson probably wouldn't be offended to hear the best showing by a Mickelson at a golf tournament of late hasn't been by him. Instead, it was by his wife, Amy, who in the midst of her battle with breast cancer, quietly reappeared Wednesday at the LPGA's Samsung World Championship at Torrey Pines.

Appearing on behalf of the Phil and Amy Mickelson Foundation, Amy (right, alongside WNBA president Donna Orender) was in good enough form to flash a smile that has been conspicuously absent from the PGA Tour as she contends with a terrifying disease. Phil had already said his hope was for Amy to be in attendance at the Presidents Cup next month in San Francisco. Judging by today's photos, that's not a far-fetched thought.
