Golf World Announces Results of First Men’s College Coaches’ Poll of the Spring Season
Georgia Retains Top Spot in D–I Poll
NEW YORK, NY—The first Golf World/Nike Golf Division I Coaches’ Poll of the spring season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine, Nike Golf and the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II, III and the NAIA, can be viewed online now. The polls will also appear in the Feb. 23 issue of Golf World.
Georgia remains the number one team in the poll, earning nine of 22 first–place votes. The Bulldogs’ spring opener is set for the end of the month at the Puerto Rico Classic.
Oklahoma State (No. 2), Southern California (No. 3), Alabama (No. 4) and Illinois (No. 7) also received first–place votes. Southern California started the spring semester the same way it ended the fall, with a victory at the UH Hilo Invitational last week. Oklahoma State and Alabama have yet to play their first spring event while Illinois finished fourth last weekend at the inaugural Big Ten Match Play Championship.
Washington made the biggest move in the poll, jumping from 15th to 8th with a runner–up finish at the UH Hilo Invitational.
Colorado State (No. 20), Duke (No. 24) and Pepperdine (No. 25) moved into the top–25.
