NEW YORK, NY—The first Golf World/NGCA Division I Coaches’ Poll of the fall season has been released, combining the resources of Golf World magazine and the National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA). The complete results, including results from Divisions II and III, will appear in the October 5 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now.
Arizona State remained the No. 1 team in the poll, earning 30 of the 35 first–place votes. The Sun Devils opened the season with a victory at the Topy Cup. This past weekend (after the results of the poll were tabulated) they finished T–4 at the Mason Rudolph Women’s Championship.
Pepperdine, ranked No. 13 in the preseason poll, vaulted to the second spot after winning its first two events of the fall season. The Waves, as a team, have made 84 birdies in six tournament rounds.
SEC rivals Auburn, LSU and Georgia moved into the Nos. 3, 4 and 5 spots, respectively. Auburn reached the final of the Hooters Match Play Championship, only to be knocked off by LSU. Georgia won its first tournament of the season, setting a school scoring record at the Duramed Cougar Classic.
Florida made the biggest move in the poll, going from unranked to No. 8. The Gators shot the low score in the 36–hole qualifier for the Hooters Match Play Championship before finishing in fourth place.
South Carolina (No. 18), Florida State (No. 19), Chattanooga (No. 21) and Ohio State (No. 24) also moved into the top–25.
