Golf World Announces Steve Ziegler of Stanford and Lizette Salas of Southern California as “College Players of the Week”
NEW YORK, NY— Golf World has announced its “College Players of the Week” for the period between February 23 and March 1. The feature will appear in the March 9 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now.
This week’s honorees are sophomores Steve Ziegler of Stanford and Lizette Salas of Southern California. Ziegler hadn’t had a round lower than 70 all season until closing with a 68–65 to win the USC College Invitational. His nine–under 204 also helped the Cardinal claim the team title by 10 strokes over BYU. Ziegler has a 72.50 average in six tournaments this season, and he has now finished in the top–11 three times in 2008–09.
With a final–round 69 at Mexico’s Peninsula G.C., Salas tied for the title at the Arizona Invitational with New Mexico’s Jodi Ewart. It was Salas’ second win this season, and her performance helped the Trojans finished T–2 as a team (their eighth top–two finish in nine events and 16th consecutive top–five). Salas has a 71.59 average this season, and she was in the starting lineup on the Trojans team that won the NCAA Championship last May.
