Golf World Announces Dustin Morris of Colorado State and Maria Hernandez of Purdue as “College Players of the Week”

March 26, 2009

NEW YORK, NY— Golf World has announced its “College Players of the Week” for the period between March 16 and March 22. The feature will appear in the March 30 issue of Golf World and can be viewed online now.

This week’s honorees are junior Dustin Morris of Colorado State and senior Maria Hernandez of Purdue. Morris shot a 13–under 203 at the Barona Cup, including a closing 66, to beat New Mexico’s Steve Saunders by three strokes for the second college victory of his career. Morris’ play helped the Rams claim their fifth team title of the season, tying a school record. He has competed in every tournament since arriving at Colorado State.

Hernandez took the individual title at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in record fashion, breaking the tournament’s 54–hole scoring mark with a six–under 210. It was her second victory at the Betsy Rawls, her third win of the season and the 11th of her career. Hernandez is a two–time Big Ten player of the year, was named Purdue’s top female athlete of the year in 2008 and is the first Purdue player to earn first–team All–American honors.
