AMERICA’S BEST NEW COURSES — 2008 (page 78)
For the 26th time, Golf Digest presents its annual ranking of “America’s Best New Courses.” The latest winners include Chambers Bay (Best New Public), Gozzer Ranch Golf and Lake Club (Best New Private), Tobiano Golf Course (Best New Canadian) and the Old Course at Saucon Valley Country Club (Best New Remodel). The survey is based on evaluations filed by Golf Digest’s panel of more than 900 male and female golfers who considered nominees that had opened (or reopened after a remodel) between May 1, 2007, and April 30, 2008. The courses were rated on their Shot Values, Design Variety, Resistance to Scoring, Memorability and Aesthetics.
Some think 2008 could have been Tiger’s best year ever had it not been for season–ending knee surgery. The biggest question in golf since June has been whether Tiger will ever be the same. In fact, 5% of Tour players interviewed think that his best days are behind him. Says Tiger on the subject: “I don’t want to be the same — I want to be better.” In his annual “State of Tiger” examination, senior writer Jaime Diaz talks to Tiger about the 2008 U.S. Open, including what was going through his head on the 72nd hole, and why the longest time away from the game in his career may be just what Tiger needs to get better.
“I’m not going to be embarrassed.” Michael Jordan didn’t have to enter six words to play in the Golf Digest U.S. Open Challenge at Bethpage Black in June 2009, but he’s confident he can break 100 under the same course conditions Open participants will face a week later. Jordan is the first of three celebrities to be announced who will join the winner of the Challenge. Click here and submit six words for the chance to tee it up with MJ.
