Editor–In–Chief, Golf World
Geoff Russell was named Editor–In–Chief of Golf World in 2002. Mr. Russell joined Golf Digest Publications in 1986 and served as Assistant Editor for Golf Shop Operations (later re–named Golf World Business) from 1986–88, then Associate Editor for Golf Digest from 1988–89.
Mr. Russell joined Golf World in June 1989, shortly after the magazine was purchased by Golf Digest Publications. He began his career at Golf World as the beat writer covering both the LPGA Tour and Senior PGA (now Champions) Tour. In 1991 he added to his responsibilities at the magazine by joining the team of writers and editors covering the men’s major championships.
In 1994, Mr. Russell was promoted to features editor of Golf World. In that role he assumed editorial oversight of the news and features departments of the magazine, as well as the eight annual major championship preview and review issues—responsibilities that would eventually culminate with his being named editor in 2002.
Under Mr. Russell’s leadership Golf World is frequently recognized for journalistic excellence by the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA). In the past two years Golf World has won 13 GWAA awards.
In addition to a bachelor’s degree in Literature from Claremont McKenna College, Mr. Russell holds a master’s degree in Journalism from Northwestern University.
