Golf World Monday: CBS eyes a late finish

As a 74-time winner on the PGA Tour, not much can phase Tiger Woods at this point. And with a six-stroke lead, he probably won't be bothered by having to wait around San Diego all morning to capture his 75th PGA Tour win and seventh Farmers Insurance Open. The reason for today's 11:10 a.m. Pacific Standard Time re-start to the final round? CBS plans to air the tournament completion in the late afternoon hours with a 5:30 p.m. Eastern Standard Time finish, knocking out any hope for 16 Farmers cut-makers who had hopes of making it to Phoenix for the Waste Management Open's Monday qualifier.

The move is super for golf fans because it means bonus coverage by both Golf Channel and CBS. The late start also lets the tour and networks find out just how many office workers will watch their online streaming coverage which will undoubtedly be watched in workplaces around the country, all in hopes of seeing yet another Tiger Woods victory at Torrey Pines.

Are you a fan of Golf World's weekly "Front 9" magazine feature? If so, this is your chance to help us write it.

Inspired by The New Yorker's cartoon-caption writing contest, Golf World is featuring the "Front 9 Punchline Contest" in every issue. Here's how it works: Every Sunday around noon, Golf World's editors will post a Front 9 setup line to our magazine's Facebook page. We'll give you until 3 p.m. on Monday to enter your best punchline to that setup.

(An example from a recent Front 9: At a grow-the-game meeting at the PGA Show, Jack Nicklaus reveals only one of his 22 grandkids plays golf.

Strange. Imagine Bob Hope's grandkids skipping the movies. Or Ben & Jerry's spurning ice cream.)

Golf World editors will then select the winning entry, which will appear (along with the writer's name and hometown) in that week's issue of Golf World. In addition to having their entry published in the magazine, winners will receive an official Golf World logo hat.

Hey, even if you don't have the best one, your creativity won't go unnoticed. We'll give you a shout out on our Editors' Blog, like we did last week: These guys were good, too.

Our last winner was Michael Coulson of Ventura, Calif., whose winning entry appeared in the Feb. 13 issue of the magazine:

The set-up line: Thanks to a raucous 16th hole, the Waste Management Open breaks the PGA Tour attendance record.

The winning punchline: "With all the beer flowing, the event should be renamed the Wasted Management Open."
