The PGA of America this month presented Dennis Walters with its Distinguished Service Award. For those present, it was the highlight of PGA week -- moving, inspiring, a reminder of why we hold this game dear. Walters, an aspiring tour player who lost use of his legs in a golf cart accident in 1974, went on to become the game's most popular trick shot artist and showman. (Check out his story in this video from the PGA of America). Walters' shows not only amaze, but motivate golfers, disabled and otherwise, to pursue their goals. Said Walters in receiving the award: "If you come to the point where your dream can't happen, don't stop dreaming. Get another dream!"

Also inspiring was our visit, a couple weeks earlier, to the Eastern Regional Amputee Golf Championship at Bethpage. While there are more than 2,500 amputee golfers worldwide, 43 were in the field on Bethpage's Red Course. Kenny Bontz of Farmingdale, N.J. won the event with scores of 73-75. But as you'll see in this video by Robyn Wishna, with reporting by Jeff Patterson, it wasn't about the score...
