At Golf World, we continue to be blown away by the creativity of our reader submissions in our Front 9 Punchline Contest. Every Sunday, we invite readers to contribute a snappy comment for one item in the Front 9 feature each week. GW feeds the line straight to our Golf World Facebook page; readers contribute the punchline, which we publish.
We chose Rory McIlroy's tennis exhibition as a good sounding point for our readers this week. Again, there were a dozen worthy winners, but we've narrowed our list of finalists down to the five most witty entries!
"Rory McIlroy wins a point from tennis player Maria Sharapova during exhibition match in New York."
The winning punchline, supplied by Kelly J. Hahn, of Wilmore, Ky., in this week's issue:
"Following the match, McIlroy bowled a 300 and declared for the NFL Draft."
Other punchline finalists:
Duane Shore, Belding, Mich.:
"Just a preview for Maria. Caroline's training for Wimbledon on Augusta grass this year."
"During the post match press conference Rory seemed perplexed when the questions turned to belly-rackets."
Larry Horowitz, Redondo Beach, Calif.:
"Rory says it's much easier to hit a moving ball."
Kelly Shon, Port Washington, N.Y.:
"Have you ever seen so many people in the tennis court laughing?"
William Papp, Jr., Youngstown, Ohio:
"Top THAT lob shot, Mickelson."
