Amending the Rivalries Issue

Golf World's Rivalries Issue drew lots of comment, with several readers sending us interesting additions/amendments. These were among the best:
I enjoyed reading the Golf World article about the Best Rivalries in Golf. It was both unique and historical. However, I think that three key rivalries were missed. 1. Greg Norman versus the majors. 2. Youth versus experience (especially given this weekend's leaderboard at the Memorial) 3. Without question the most significant skip: Phil Mickelson versus the U.S. Open Championship. I don't think I need to replay all five of his record setting second place finishes to illustrate the point. Thanks for the article and all of your great work month after month, year after year. It is always a pleasure to be a reader and have my thoughts heard.

I was dismayed to read Bill Fields article of the best rivalries in golf and not see Ted Rhodes vs. Bill Spiller. To see Peanuts vs. Pretzels make the top 50 and EZGO vs. Club Car make the top 75 and not these two great golfers is disappointing.This was a rivalry that should be listed. Those UGA events were hotly contested and those two golfers led the charge.

How did you manage to skip Miller vs. Faldo or McCord vs. Augusta National? In the former case, it is criticism vs. acerbic humor and criticism. In the latter case, it is humor vs. stodginess. In both cases, the rivalries capture the essence of golf.
Gary Tobin, San Rafael, CA
Good suggestions all. The Rhodes-Spiller rivalry is especially good. We might add a few more:
Sam Snead vs. the U.S. Open;
Jim King vs. Pete Sesso;
Seve Ballesteros vs. Michael Bonallack
