In her Ask Stina column in the November Golf Digest Stina Sternberg takes a swipe at cigars at golf tournaments:
"...when a playing partner asks me if it's OK for him to have a cigar, I usually say, 'Sure, as long as I don't have to smell it." Then I stay as far away from him as I can while the stogie is lit. If someone is smoking a cigar next to me in the gallery at a golf tournament, I'm less polite. In crowded places like that, I've been known to grab a cifar out of a guy's mouth and stomp it out.'
That ignited reader Mike Marshall:
On page 66 your contributing author stated she grabbed a cigar from a man’s mouth and stomped on it. Do you really think this is any kind of good advice for your readers? What would happen if someone were legally smoking and another person did this and after the fact quoted her from your magazine. Seems like it would put you at some risk as well as the person, man or woman that followed her actions. These types of articles are not why I spend my money on these types of magazines. If this is the way you want to go it will be without my subscription.All right, you two, let's take it down a notch. Mike, I agree that grabbing and stomping is extreme. We are not recommending it. On the other hand, if attending a tournament and smoking a cigar, we do recommend you to steer clear of blonde Swedish columnists for the time being.
