How Green is Golf, cont'd
Well. That April golf-and-the-environment story certainly aroused your attention and, for many of you, your ire. This letter from Ken Artingstall of Glendale, California (Ronald Reagan country if I'm not mistaken), is the latest in a rapid series:
Be careful if you intend to enter the political arena in a sports publication. There are plenty of us who believe the so-called "environmental movement" is just socialism in its latest guise, "man-made global warming" is a hoax and "endangered species protection" is typical baby-boomer hubris. I no more believe humans can "control" this planet's environment than I'll be playing Augusta National on Masters Sunday. Stick to your knitting: You're a golf publication, not the Sierra Club.
Thanks, Ken. Your letter reminds me again of golf's power to bring together diverse human groups--like yours and mine, for instance. That unifying (and civilizing) power was on breathtaking display at Augusta National today, when the son shone, people were extremely nice to one another, strangers talked about a game they loved and nobody littered.
Events that can do that are an endangered species.

What a great article on Global Baloney...I mean Warming. Of course it's been really cold this winter but I will be happy to sell carbon foot prints to the Editor s he feeeeeels better about himself. OR I can cancel pay subscription to what used to be a great magazine. At least by cancelling I can save a treeeeeeee. Your hanging around the wrong crowd, Mr Editor. Al Gore HATES golfers, but loves Gofers.
The suckers are those who believe this junk is true.
Global Warming is a big lie. The true data shows it, but the biased models of liberals only take into account data they want present in the models. In a statistics class I took in 2003 we looked at years of temp. data. We are actually in a relatively cooler period in the earths history.
These same liberals who think the earth is billions of years old, also believe we are going to ruin in a few years. The earth goes in cycles, everyone knows that.
Its not that golf and any other industry shouldn't care about our environment. The earth is our home, and we should care for it responsibly. I don't think littering is ok, or dumping hazardous materials, etc. But I do think it gets a bit ridiculous when our gov't wants to start taxing due to "global warming." They want to start telling us what products to use, etc.
Now we have this bleeding into golf. Should courses try to use their resources carefully? Of course, but let's not act like this is a matter of life and death. Global Warming Fanatics act like all of their THEORIES are already true, which they are not (Just like evolution). Just like this article, people speak as if they know these things to be fact, which they aren't. We won't have any more of a water Crises in 2025 than we have had in recent history. I definitely will not keep my subs. if junk like this keeps appearing in these mags. I want decent stuff to read.
I APPLAUD KEN.I ALSO THINK MAN MADE GLOBAL WARMING IS THE LATEST IN A LONG LINE OF LIBERAL NONSENSE.CAN MAN MAKE IT RAIN OR SNOW OR CHANGE THE SPEED OF THE WIND. NO. BUT WE ARE EXPECTED TO BELIEVE HE CAN HEAT OR COOL THE PLANET. HOW UTTERY RIDICULOUS. I SUGGEST YOU READ THE PROLOGUE TO JURASSIC PARK. THE PART ABOUT THE INTOXICATION OF VANITY.MAN IS INSIGNFICANT IN THE GRAND SCHEME OF THINGS. TO THINK MAN CAN CONTROL NATURE IS THE HEIGHT OF ARROGANCE.IT SADDENS ME THAT SO MANY PEOPLE HAVE FALLEN FOR THIS AND NOT BOTHERED TO RESEARCH IT THEMSELVES THE SCIENCE DOES NOT BACK IT UP.MAYBE THE MAN WAS RIGHT A SUCKER IS BORN EVERY MINUTE.
You're a fool, Ken. And a total sucker for right-wing political hacks in the employ of oil companies.
