Love Gets Extreme

In winter 2008, Davis Love III flew to his home in Sun Valley, Idaho, to train with Damien Moroney, a physical therapist who works with the Canadian bobsled and Red Bull mountain-bike teams. At the time, Love, an extreme-sports junkie, was recovering from major ankle surgery and had to leave his snowboard on the rack. But this winter, Love is using Moroney's fitness routine to get his legs stronger for the slopes and to prepare for his 24th season on the PGA Tour. Love, 44, who ended last season by winning the 20th tournament of his career at the Children's Miracle Network Classic at Walt Disney World, says he will play a full schedule and try to qualify for all four majors. (He wasn't in the Masters field at press time.) Another victory at the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am (Feb. 12-15), where he has won twice, would do it. Tim Finchem, the PGA Tour commissioner, will be his partner. "I can solve a lot with a win early in the year," Love says...

Boo Weekley has become somewhat of a rock star since the Ryder Cup, with guest appearances on Jay Leno's couch, in__Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s charity golf outing, at__Tiger Woods' tournament and at the PGA Merchandise Show in January, where his signature camouflage line was unveiled by Firethorn. Weekley's fame has also spread to Europe. In addition to having his PGA Tour card, Weekley is now a member of the European tour, and its sponsors are throwing money at him to play their events...

Luke Donald is back. The stylish Englishman had wrist surgery in August and returned to action at the Nedbank Golf Challenge in South Africa in early December.__ Jim Furyk__ had a similar operation and offered rehab tips to Donald, who spent a lot of time working on his game at The Bear's Club in Jupiter, Fla. One of that club's newest members, by the way, is Michael Jordan. Donald got to know Jordan through their connection to the Chicago area. (Donald played his college golf at Northwestern.)
