America's Fifty Greatest Teachers
How to become a great driver

-
1.
- Stand Ready, Not Rigid
With the driver, men tend to stand too far from the ball and too wide. It makes them feel powerful, like they're all stretched out. It's better to stand tall, with your upper body relaxed. Set your feet at shoulder width and the butt of the club six inches from your belt buckle. Get your body ready to respond, not tense or locked in place.

-
2.
- Don't Hurry to the top
Give yourself enough time to wind up as far as you can. Try to get your left shoulder behind the ball. The way to do that is to swing with rhythm. Also, your weight should move in the same direction as the club: When the club swings back, your weight goes back; the club starts forward, your weight goes forward.

-
3.
- Can you hold your finish?
Amateurs swing at 110 percent on the tee. This causes tension, which slows down the swing. They're swinging harder and going slower instead of swinging smoother and going faster. Staying in control will result in better contact—the biggest power key. Try to hold your finish until you see the ball land.
