Daly Receives Sponsor's Exemption Into Canadian Open

John Daly will play his next PGA Tour event on a sponsor's exemption in the Canadian Open

July 9, 2009

OAKVILLE, Ont. (AP) - John Daly has accepted a sponsor's exemption to the Canadian Open, his second start on the PGA Tour since returning from a six-month suspension.

Daly is in the middle of a three-week stretch on the European Tour that will conclude next week with the British Open, where he is exempt as a former champion. The Canadian Open is a week after the British Open, held this year at Glen Abbey.

Tournament director Bill Paul says Daly has told him he is committed to reviving his PGA Tour career. Daly made his PGA Tour return in June at the St. Jude Classic in Memphis, where he tied for 59th.
