U.S. Open

Biggest Final-Round Blowups

June 17, 2011
Ever since the U.S. Open stopped playing the final 36 holes on Saturday in 1964, third-round leaders have had to wait until 2:30 Sunday to start the most pressure-packed 18 holes in golf. More have failed to hold than not, and some -- including some big names -- have blown up. Here are the top 10 worst fourth rounds by a third-round leader in our national championship.
Dustin Johnson

1. Dustin Johnson: 82 at Pebble Beach in 2010

Johnson looked like he would cruise to his first major title after a third-round 66 put him three shots ahead of the field. But after an opening par on Sunday, disaster struck with a triple bogey on the second hole, and a lost-ball double on the third. Nothing good followed as Johnson finished tied for eighth.
