PGA Championship: Report Card

How the top 10 players on the World Ranking entering the PGA Championship fared

1. Tiger Woods, Won, 272 (-8)

Grade: A

What worked: Normally erratic off the tee, Woods only missed three fairways on the back nine all week.
What didn't: Woods made only 10 bogeys at Southern Hills, five coming in his last 10 holes Thursday.
2007 recap: One win and two seconds at the majors makes the tour's player-of-the-year race moot.

Masters: B (T-2)
U.S. Open: A- (T-2)
British Open: B- (T-12)

2. Jim Furyk, MC, 146 (+6)

Grade: F

What worked: Was T-4 in fairways hit after Friday, tied for the most among those who missed the cut.
What didn't: Couldn't find his rhythm after suffering a back injury and made no birdies in the first round.
2007 recap: Three strong major showings and one injury-related MC are reasons to look forward to 2008

IN THE MAJORS
Masters: B- (T-13)
U.S. Open: A- (T-2)
British Open: B (T-12)

3. Phil Mickelson, T-32, 286 (+6)

Grade: C

What worked: One of three players without a bogey Sunday, but it came after he made seven Saturday.
What didn't: Although he shot 69 Friday, he hit only three fairways and missed too many makable putts.
2007 recap: The MCs were his first at majors since '99, and he didn't have a top-10 for the first time since '97.

IN THE MAJORS
Masters: C- (T-24)
U.S. Open: F (MC)
British Open: F (F)

4. Ernie Els, 3, 275 (-5)

Grade: B

What worked: A rejuvenated Els made 20 birdies, and his 106 putts were the week's second fewest.
What didn't: The putter abandoned him in key moments with misses on 9 and 11 Sunday.
2007 recap: He got progressively better and appears to be finally ready to challenge Woods once again.

IN THE MAJORS
Masters: F (MC)
U.S. Open: C- (T-51)
British Open: B+ (T-4)

5. Adam Scott, T-12, 282 (+2)

Grade: B-

What worked: Finished in the top 20 in distance, greens in regulation and putts.
What didn't: Despite decent numbers, he admitted to frustration because he couldn't gain on the leaders.
2007 recap: An off year after the promising finish to 2006 leaves questions as to which way 2008 will go.

IN THE MAJORS
Masters: C- (T-27)
U.S. Open: F (T-MC)
British Open: C (T-27)
