Only once in the last 37 years have all four major championships produced first-time major winners in the same year. This year’s champs—Zach Johnson, Angel Cabrera and Padraig Harrington—differ from that 2003 crop in that all were ranked in the top 60 on the World Ranking when they prevailed. In 2003 Mike Weir (Masters) and Jim Furyk (U.S. Open) were household names, but British Open champ Ben Curtis (ranked 396th) and PGA winner Shaun Micheel (169th) defied prognostication. Anticipating another first-timer to win and expecting that player to be a somewhat familiar face, we asked six staff members to determine who will be hoisting his first major trophy at Southern Hills.
