What worked: Woods described his putting as "phenomenal." His 115 putts ranked T-19 for the week.
What didn't: Erratic drives (he hit five fairways in Friday's 74) and troublesome sand play set him back.
PGA prospects: Can his putter stay sharp? Woods was T-7 in putts at Southern Hills at the '01 U.S. Open.

2. Phil Mickelson, MC, 148 (+6)
Grade: F
What worked: No longer bothered by the wrist injury, Lefty began the week by hitting seven straight fairways.
What didn't: With an MC looming, Mickelson had three three-putts in his last five holes Friday.
PGA prospects: Tied for seventh at Southern Hills in 2001. He hasn't missed the cut at the PGA since '95.

3. Jim Furyk, T-12, 282 (-2)
Grade: B
What worked: Only two players had more birdies than Furyk, who also was T-5 in driving accuracy.
What didn't: Always on the verge but never quite in contention, he bogeyed the 18th hole three times.
PGA prospects: The fact he was T-3 in accuracy at the '01 U.S. Open doesn't offset his final-round 82.

4. Ernie Els, T-4, 279 (-5)
Grade: B+
What worked: No three-putts helped his confidence. Els went 24 holes sans bogey after the triple Saturday.
What didn't: Inconsistency off the tee and on approaches kept him from challenging at the end.
PGA prospects: He has only three top-10s at the year's final major and was T-66 at the Southern Hills Open.

5. Adam Scott, T-27, 286 (+2)
Grade: C
What worked: After missing his first six fairways he didn't miss another on the front nine until Saturday.
What didn't: Like Furyk, he never broke 70, keeping him from making big gains on the leaders.
PGA prospects: Last year's T-3 at Medinah was his best finish in a major. He didn't play the '01 Open.
