Open crowd sixth best in history

ST. ANDREWS, Scotland - The Royal and Ancient announced attendance at the 2010 British Open on The Old Course at 201,000 for the week, 82,500 more than a year ago at Turnberry.

The figure was the sixth highest total ever at the Open Championship, but just the fourth highest total at St. Andrews since he R&A started keeping attendance figures at Troon in 1962. The record of 230,000 is shared by St. Andrews (2000) and Royal Liverpool (2006).
