More injury woes for Singh

HONOLULU -- Vijay Singh withdrew from Wednesday's pro-am at the Sony Open in Hawaii with a back injury.

The 2005 Sony Open champion played nine holes at Waialae CC before retreating to the locker room for physical therapy. He said the problem in his lower back has been ongoing and not a result of an injury on the course Wednesday morning.

"It's just sore, and I didn't want to push it," said Singh, who went winless last year on the PGA Tour for the first time since 2001 and has slipped to No. 26 in the world rankings. "I didn't want to put any more strain on it."

Singh, who turns 47 next month, last year missed the Sony Open in Hawaii for the first time because of a knee injury for which he underwent arthroscopic surgery. He has finished in the top 25 in the tournament six times in nine appearances.
