LA QUINTA, Calif. -- The Bob Hope Classic has had to trim its four-day pro-am for the first time in its 51-year history as a result of persistent rain that has saturated the four courses on which the tournament is played.
The second round on Thursday was postponed until Friday. In the interest of completing the tournament on Monday, the PGA Tour decided that on Friday, it would be professionals only, going off in twosomes, starting at 11 a.m. (PST). The pro-am will be a three-round affair, with the amateurs resuming play on Saturday.
All of this is weather permitting, of course. There remains a 50 percent chance of rain throughout the day here. No rain is in the forecast for Saturday, Sunday and Monday, however.
The total rainfall here this week has been 3.2 inches, nearly three times as much as fell at PGA West during the calendar year 2009 (1.2 inches).
