The Local Knowlege

Brad Faxon joins NBC

Brad Faxon, 48, is still attempting to resuscitate his playing career in the aftermath of reconstructive surgery on his ACL in December of 2007, but while he does so he will begin moonlighting as a commentator on NBC golf telecasts in 2010, the network has announced.

Faxon, who is playing this week in the Sony Open in Hawaii, will retain the option to play events that NBC is broadcasting. A winner of eight PGA Tour events and nearly $18 million, Faxon made only five cuts in 23 starts in 2009, after missing virtually the entire 2008 season.

"Brad Faxon possesses invaluable experience that I'm confident he will articulate to our viewers," NBC Sports golf producer Tommy Roy said in a news release. "As an active player and a member of the PGA TOUR Policy Board, he has inside-the-ropes and inside-the-locker room knowledge of current players plus a broader understanding of the game."
