The Local Knowlege

Are Norman's wild cards about to pay off?

On the eve of the Presidents Cup, International team captain Greg Norman suddenly looks prescient for using his captain's picks on an 18-year-old and a falling star.

The 18-year-old, Japan's Ryo Ishikawa, wasn't a stretch. His play on the Japan Golf Tour has been stellar all year, as it was again on Sunday, when he birdied the last two holes to secure a one-stroke victory in the Japan Golf Tour's Tokai Classic Sunday, his fourth victory of the season.

But Norman bet the longshot with Adam Scott, who may yet pay off. Scott's best PGA Tour finish since January had been a tie for 33rd, yet he heads into the final round of the Turning Stone Resort Championship today tied for 15th, a vast improvement (even in a sub-standard field), whatever happens in the final round.
