TURNBERRY, Scotland -- That hissing sound you hear is the air going out of this British Open.
What had all the makings of a major championships for the ages (and the aged) will instead be claimed by Stewart Cink -- good player, engaging Twitterer, but not exactly the guy poised to make golf lead the evening news.
Or put it another way: There were thousands here at Turnberry who were ready to tell their grandkids they were there when a 59-year-old Tom Watson won the British Open. If they end up telling stories about Stewart Cink, they might have to be prodded for the details.
