* That he once was rumored to have been dating Natalie Gulbis. In 2004, ESPN asked Gulbis about her relationship with Barnes. Here's the exchange:
Q: You are friends with Ricky Barnes. You guys spend some time together?
A: We went to school together at Arizona. So when I train in Phoenix, I train at the facility adidas has. We usually hang out and go to a basketball game or go play golf. If there is an Arizona alumni thing, they usually bring us out to do clinics and stuff like that.
* That at the 2004 Australian Masters he was fined and reprimanded for conduct unbecoming of a professional, for repeated displays of temper. "From the word go, from the first shot he was blowing up," his playing partner and tournament winner, Richard Green, said. "It was a shame that that sort of behavior was going on."
* That Los Angeles Lakers forward Luke Walton is a friend, who was sending him text messages of encouragement during the Nationwide Tour Championship last year. Presumably, he's doing the same this week.
* That he threatened to win the Australian Open in 2003, even leading at one point of the final round. Peter Lonard eventually won.
UPDATE: On the Gulbis front, here's a Twitter post from her from Friday: "I am cheering for all the guys that Butch Harmon teaches, Nick Watney, Adam Scott, Phil Mickelson, Ernie Els, what a group!!!!" No mention of Barnes. Decide for yourself what this means.
