BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - The PGA of America is going back to its New York-area roots for its centennial PGA Championship. Baltusrol GC's Lower course in Springfield, N.J., was announced Wednesday as the site of the 2016 PGA. Baltusrol last hosted the event in 2005.
"It's one of the classic clubs in this country," said Joe Steranka, CEO of the PGA of America. "Being in the New York metropolitan area [in 2016] was important. I know we'll have a lot of activities in the year leading up to that centennial championship."
The PGA of America was founded in New York City on April 10, 1916 and the first PGA Championship was played that October at Siwanoy CC in Bronxville, N.Y.
