Johnson: Kenny Perry Withdraws

BLOOMFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- You have to give Kenny Perry credit for at least trying to play the PGA Championship. Despite claims that his eye was "fine," Perry struggled during an opening-round 79 at Oakland Hills and withdrew shortly afterward. "It's just no way to play golf," said Perry, who suffered a scratched cornea Tuesday while taking out a contact lens. "I considered withdrawing during the round but that didn't seem like the right thing to do."

Perry said he would skip this week's Wyndham Championship but that his eye should be fine by his next start at The Barclays in the opening event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs.
