SOUTHPORT, England -- After shooting 67 in the second round of the British Open on Friday, Scott Verplank learned of the death of Fran Pruitt, wife of PGA Tour rules official Dillard and the older sister of Verplank's wife, Kim. Fran Pruitt was 46 and had complications from cystic fibrosis.
Scott Verplank, five shots off K.J. Choi's 36-hole lead, was uncertain whether he would play the weekend or withdraw and return home.
