Most Famous 63 In Major History

Golf World's Tim Rosaforte offers an in-depth look concerning Tiger Woods' 63 that he shot in the second round at Southern Hills. Rosaforte spoke to several other players who shot 63 in a major -- and got their take on why they failed to shoot 62, a number that has yet to be carded in a major.

As a bonus to that story, here's the actual scorecard of the most famous 63 shot in a major. Click on the photo to see an enlarged, complete version of the scorecard.

Not to disgrace Tiger's amazing performance at Southern Hills, but his 63 was on a par 70 course, while Johnny Miller was on a par 71 Oakmont.
I am sure it would be a super exploit if these guys shot a 59 on a par 60 course.

What does par matter? You start on the first tee and hole out on the 18th.

Par definitely matters. Shooting a 59 on a par 60 is infinitely easier than shooting 63 on a par 70 or 71. I'm a 4 hndcp and have never broken 70 a regulation course. I have shot in the 60's on Executive courses (par 64 or 65) but I don't consider that the same.

I can see the point when you are comparing par 65 to par 70. But at the highest level, I do not see that par 71 makes a vast difference compared to par 70. The courses themselves are unchanged, and par is adjusted by turning some par-5's into par-4's.
