The Local Knowlege

Laura Davies' 2-Hole Practice Round

Laura Davies is a well-documented despiser of slow play. How much does she
hate it? Enough that when she realized a practice round on the Old Course at
St. Andrews prior to the Women's British Open would take at least five
hours, she cut her practice session short: she played the first and 18
holes, then called it a day, according to the New York Times (registration required):

"I just wanted to play a couple of holes to see what it’s all about," said Davies, who can qualify for the Hall of Fame with a victory.

Asked why she had never played the course that is considered the crown jewel of golf before this week, Davies said: "I tend to play a lot of tournaments, and when I'm not, I don't play golf. It's as simple as that."
