The Local Knowlege

Lots of Letters, Lots of Wins

Blogpak_2 Se Ri Pak, who has one of the shortest names on the LPGA Tour -- hey, it's not Brittany Lincicome or Stacy Prammanasudh -- certainly plays well in long-named events. With her record-tying fifth win Sunday at the ... wait for it ... Jamie Farr Owens Corning Classic Presented by Kroger, Pak joined Annika Sorenstam and Mickey Wright as the only players to win the same tournament five times.

Add this win to her impressively long list of long-name victories, which includes the 2002 Office Depot Championship Hosted by Amy Alcott, the '03 Safeway PING presented by Yoplait and the '06 McDonald's LPGA Championship presented by Coca-Cola. I'm out of breath, but there are 20 others (wins, not syllables).

Even with fellow-Korean K.J. Choi's two PGA Tour wins this year, Pak still seems to carry the most popularity in her homeland. Read Andrew Carter's recent article in The Orlando Sentinel for more.

Se Ri's win was incredible as was Golf World's continuing stupidity and crush on Phil Mickelson. How many times do you put him on the cover when he isn't the newsmaker of the week. Lets see since April 2006

1- Karrie Webb wins the Kraft Nabisco, Lefty gets the cover.

2- Geoff Ogilvy wins the US Open

3- Charley Hoffman wins the Bob Hope and Mickelson finishes T for forty something.

4- Se Ri Pak makes LPGA history and Lefty loses a playoff.

Enough said. You goes must all be in love in lefty.
