Texas men hook No. 1 ranking

The third Golf World/Nike Golf Division I men's coaches' poll of the 2011-12 season brings with it the third different school to claim the top spot. Thanks to its three tournament win streak to close the fall semester, Texas roped 18 of the 23 available first-place votes to earn the No. 1 ranking for the first time since the Golf World poll was revived in 2001-02.

As was the case with last week's women's polls, several of the men's programs in the polls are ranked as high as they've been in the last 10 seasons. Along with the Longhorns, No. 4 Arkansas and No. 10 California find themselves at historic high points; neither program had previously been ranked in the top 10.

The same goes for No. 12 North Florida (previous best was 20th), No. 17 Kent State (matching their previous high) and No. 18 UCF.

After taking a look at the poll you'll also notice a few schools that are conspicuous by their absence.

The Tigers had actually never been ranked higher than sixth in any previous poll before claiming the top spot this time, thanks to their win at the Carpet Capital Classic (without their top player, Blayne Barber) and a T-2 finish at the Olympia Fields/Fighting Illini Invitational.
