Conference preview: SEC

SEC
MEN
2009-10 outlook

Thumbnail image for Alabama logo 2008-09.gifPredicted champion: Alabama
Predicted player of the year: Bud Cauley, Alabama
Predicted freshman of the year: Tyler McCumber, Florida
NCAA Regional bound: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, LSU, South Carolina, Arkansas, Tennessee, Auburn, Vanderbilt, Mississippi
Team on the rise: LSU--Strong summer performances suggest that the Tigers will carry over solid play from last spring into this season.
Biggest question mark: Georgia--Losing Brian Harman and Adam Mitchell to graduation was one thing, but how long will Hudson Swafford take to recover from labrum surgery?
Wouldn't surprise me to see: Florida look inconsistent this fall--as it tries to figure out its way minus Billy Horschel--only to hit its stride and be ranked in the top five by the SEC Championship.
Would shock me to see:
Any less than 10 teams receive bids to NCAA regionals.

WOMEN
2009-10 outlook

Thumbnail image for Auburn logo 2008-09.gifPredicted champion: Auburn
Predicted player of the year: Candace Schepperle, Auburn
Predicted freshman of the year: Amelia Lewis, Florida
NCAA Regional bound: Auburn, Florida, Alabama, LSU, Arkansas, Georgia, Tennessee, Vanderbilt, South Carolina
Team on the rise: Florida--Incoming freshmen Amelia Lewis and Isabelle Lendl, along with new coach Jan Dowling, should give Gators a boost.
Biggest question mark: LSU--Was last year's success (two wins, six top-fives) a one-year blip or a continuing trend?
Wouldn't surprise me to see: A wide open race for the conference title with any of four schools having a chance over the final 18 holes of the final round.
Would shock me to see: Schepperle again go winless throughout the season. While so close to winning a year ago (seven top-fives, never finished outside the top 10), she'll break through at least once.
