Only Day 1 and we've got Conference Championship thrills

The first few of the conference championships ended yesterday and already we have some pretty amazing stories to talk about.

* In miserable weather at Tulsa (Okla.) CC for the Conference USA Women's Championship, Tulane (69-over 933) cruised to a 23-stroke victory over UCF, continuing a storybook season in the Waves first year of competition since the school suspended the program after Hurricane Katrina. Tulane freshman Daniela Holmqvist shot a nine-over 225 to win medalist honors by 10 strokes over Tulsa's Sarah Elliott.

* With their four counters shooting four under par on the final hole at Hiddenbroke GC in Vallejo, Calif., including an eagle from Chris Cunningham, the San Francisco men beat Loyola Marymount by one stroke to claim their first West Coast Conference title since 1990. The Dons trailed the Lions by four strokes with three holes remaining before their 18th hole heroics.

Congrats too to the Pepperdine women for their eighth WCC title and senior Jayvie Agojo for winning her second individual conference crown.

Women's championships that end today include Atlantic Sun and Big South.
