The recently-restored Pinehurst No. 2 was put to its first tournament test

July 5, 2011
The 111th North & South Amateur Championship, which concluded July 2 with a victory by Jack Fields over David Erdy in the final, was the first tournament to be played on Pinehurst Resort's venerable No. 2 course since a dramatic restoration by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw returned the layout to the original design of architect Donald Ross. Jack Fields plays his second shot from just short of the green on the tempting 350-yard, par-4 third hole in a first-round victory over Jonathan Brain during his march to the title.
