The (Golf) Year In Twitter

John Strege reviews the best and worst golf tweets of 2010

December 2010

Golf fully embraced the Twitter world in 2010, even luring the reticent Tiger Woods into the fold (though Phil Mickelson remains a holdout). Stewart Cink and Ian Poulter, meanwhile, are two of only 17 athletes with more than one million followers, according to Business Insider.

The game's Tweeters have been a frequent source of amusement, often unintentionally, as John Daly demonstrated with this nice Thanksgiving Day sentiment that was, in fact, a lead-in for a shameless sales pitch:

"I have so much to be thankful for---Happy Thanksgiving everyone --- wishing you all the best! Also, biggest Shopping Days of the Year---how about some LOUDMOUTH'S for Christmas!!! & use PROMO CODE JDnation for an EXTRA 15% off thru next Tuesday!!!!"

We'll get right on it, J.D. With that, here are the highlights (or lowlights, depending on one's perspective) from golf's year in Twitter:

Phil Mickelson

In other words, he liked it

From Paul Azinger (@PaulAzinger), regarding the 6-iron shot Phil Mickelson hit from the trees on the 13th hole at Augusta National in the final round of the Masters:

"by the way Phils shot was the best I've ever seen at Augusta mostly because of the taters it took to try it!"
