LPGA Restarts Drug Testing

Drug testing returned to the LPGA at the Sybase Classic—maybe. A dozen players were pulled aside Saturday at Upper Montclair CC in Clifton, N.J., the first testing since the Fields Open in February. Days after the Fields test, players were told it was a "trial run." About a month later the company that conducted the test was fired, and The National Center for Drug Free Sport was hired to administer the program after complaints by players of long waits and insufficient staffing. Things went well at Sybase until Sunday when at least two players were told—after their rounds and as they were hurrying to catch planes—they needed to be re-tested. The LPGA did not respond Sunday when asked about the latest testing.
