Finding more turn or speed

Work with what you have

Hank Haney

More speed: Turn your left foot out slightly to help your hips turn faster through impact.

Getting more turn is the quickest way to hit the ball longer. Turn your right foot out a couple of inches at address, and you'll be able to wind up more completely. Or, to get more hip speed through impact, turn your left foot out a couple of inches. You might find that the increased hip speed will help you get in sync in the downswing. And you might stop hitting hooks—caused by your hands trying to compensate for your lower body not generating enough power.
