START FROM THE CORRECT POSITION

Most players take their grip with the club in front of them, then stretch their arms out to the ball (above, inset). When you start like that, the club immediately moves too steep and off plane, and you're compensating right from the start. Instead, set your left-hand grip with your hand behind your hip pocket (above, right). That creates an angle in your left wrist, helps direct your posture--a tilt from the hips, not the waist--and gives you a much better feel of the handle being in your fingers.

DRAW THE GRIP SWEET SPOT ON YOUR GLOVE

Speaking of keeping the grip in the fingers, take a glove from last season and draw parallel lines an inch apart at the base of the first set of finger joints. When you have a few minutes at night, in front of the TV, hold the club with the handle covering those guidelines (left), and make small, circular waggles showing the freedom in your left wrist. If the handle gets across your palm (inset), it's harder to hinge and unhinge the wrist during the swing.
